India and France amended their Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA), officially ending the ‘Most Favoured Nation’ (MFN) provision. Under the new rules, the dividend tax rate is set at 5% for major investors and 15% for smaller investors.
India and New Zealand concluded a historic Free Trade Agreement (FTA) on December 22, 2025. The agreement introduces a Temporary Employment Entry (TEE) visa, allowing 5,000 Indian professionals to work in New Zealand. Furthermore, a joint statement was signed for a proposed FTA between India and the GCC nations.
The UAE and Telangana agreed to collaborate on developing India’s first net-zero greenfield smart city, ‘Bharat Future City’, aiming to boost sustainable development. India and Bhutan signed an agreement allowing Bhutanese judicial clerks to work in the Supreme Court of India.

Parliament Winter Session 2025 (संसद शीतकालीन सत्र)
During the Winter Session of 2025, the Indian Parliament passed 8 significant bills. The Viksit Bharat – GRAM G Bill 2025 was approved, effectively replacing MGNREGA and guaranteeing 125 days of wage employment per rural household.
The SHANTI Bill 2025 was passed to allow private and foreign investments in the nuclear energy sector, ending the monopoly of NPCIL. Additionally, the Insurance Act Amendment Bill raised the FDI limit in the insurance sector from 74% to 100%.

- Census 2027: The Union Cabinet approved a ₹11,718.24 crore budget for India’s first fully digital census.
- Santhali Constitution: President Droupadi Murmu released the Santhali edition of the Indian Constitution in the Ol Chiki script.
- PM RAHAT & Rah-Veer Yojana: Launched to provide free, cashless treatment up to ₹1.5 lakh for road accident victims during the golden hour.
- Keralam: The PMO approved the proposal to change the name of Kerala to “Keralam” to reflect its Malayalam cultural identity.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new PMO executive enclave named ‘Sewa Tirtha’ in New Delhi. He also inaugurated the 82-km long Namo Bharat Rapid Rail corridor between Delhi and Meerut.

India achieved a record in fertilizer production, significantly reducing its import dependency by becoming 87% self-reliant in Urea and 90% in NPK fertilizers.

UNESCO officially added the festival of Diwali to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity during its 20th session hosted in India.
