The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially released the advanced level syllabus for Class 9 Science and Mathematics for the academic session 2026-27. These optional courses are designed for motivated students who wish to explore subjects beyond the standard curriculum, fostering stronger analytical skills and conceptual depth.

Key Announcement: The advanced courses align with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2023, promoting differentiated learning and higher-order thinking skills (HOTS).

Why Has CBSE Introduced Advanced Courses?

CBSE aims to strengthen students’ conceptual foundation and better prepare them for higher secondary education and competitive examinations. The advanced pathways allow students to delve deeper into subjects without altering the core (standard) syllabus, which remains compulsory for all.

In the Advanced Science course, students will explore Physics, Chemistry, and Biology with greater depth. The focus is on:

  • Analytical thinking and application-based learning
  • Solving advanced numerical problems
  • Performing detailed experiments
  • Building strong scientific reasoning
  • Connecting scientific concepts with real-life situations

Highlights of Advanced Mathematics

The Advanced Mathematics syllabus emphasizes higher-level problem-solving across key areas such as Algebra, Geometry, and Number Systems. Students can expect:

  • Complex and multi-step problem-solving
  • Enhanced logical reasoning and mathematical thinking
  • Preparation for future academic and competitive challenges

Note: CBSE has currently released only the first two chapters of Advanced Mathematics. The remaining chapters will be uploaded soon.

  • Develops advanced problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Provides flexibility for differentiated learning
  • Better prepares students for Class 10 boards and future competitive exams
  • Encourages deeper exploration of subjects aligned with NEP 2020 goals

Pro Tip for Students: If you are aiming for science streams in higher classes or competitive exams like JEE/NEET foundations, the advanced syllabus can give you a significant edge by strengthening your conceptual clarity early on.
